Local information sources

Start with the council

To find out about what’s happening in your area, first contact your local council and ask for a copy of their local play strategy.

You can also ask for the contact details of the council’s lead officer for play provision.

Or find out about what is happening in your area through your local family information service. You will also be able to find out what is happening through your local school, children’s centre or other play and youth providers in your area.

Other sources of information

A number of regional and national organisations also provide more local information. For example, The Children’s Play Information Service has copies of many local play strategies and produces regularly updated fact sheets on national and international organisations that provide information on children’s play.

You could also contact the Play England advice line on 020 7843 6300.

KIDS provide a range of services for disabled children, young people and families including information and advice on play and childcare.

There are also many local and regional play associations that provide information on children’s play. The Children’s Play Information Service has a list of local and regional play associations available on request.
