The background to Playful Communities
Playful Communities has been developed from
the Neighbourhood Play Toolkit, which was produced by the
Children’s Play Council and the National Children’s Bureau in
2006.
In 2008, Play Association of Tower Hamlets (PATH) was asked by
Play England to undertake a review and revision of the toolkit. The
Playful Communities website is a response to the findings of that
review and incorporates additional information provided by
PATH.
The update was commissioned as part of Play England’s work as
lead delivery partner for The Play Strategy, on behalf of the
former Department for Children, Families and Schools.
Engaging Communities in Play programme
Playful Communities is part of Play England’s Engaging
Communities in Play programme which supports community
engagement in play and promotes the role of the voluntary and
community sector in delivering play opportunities for children.
The Engaging Communities in Play programme is part of Play
England’s work as the government delivery partner for the
Department for Education's Play programme.
